Looking for a little chocolate? (Silly question!)

I'll let you in on a little secret from the Biles kitchen. When we are craving a sweet, chocolatey treat and frozen would be even better we grab one of these. The single pop Fudgesicle is only 40 calories and has no BBC forbidden ingredients in it. Why bother with a microscopic sized thin bovine fake treat when you can have the real deal with natural ingredients and smooth, creamy feeling on the tongue?

Be sure not to get the doubles and, as always, read you label to be sure you have the right product and they haven't changed the recipe!
Healthier Bread Product on Market

Many of our clients have been really pleased to find the new Arnold Select™ Sandwich Thins™. We've personally tried the 100% whole wheat and really found them a good alternative to sandwich bread. Remember that usually a serving of sandwich bread is one slice. With these a serving is still one roll but it is cut and has two pieces. This makes it easier to use on a traditional sandwich.

At 100 calories and only 10 of those coming from fat (0 saturated fat) it meets all of the Bodyshaping Boot Camp food guidelines. There is also a multi-grain and other varieties. Check them out.
A full days cholesterol in ONE omelet!

A mom brought me the Jimmy Dean Ham & Cheese Omelet box and said her son loved these (there are two in a box so I'm not sure how many were served at breakfast). When I reviewed the label I found that there is 98% of the cholesterol that an average adult should eat in A WHOLE DAY in just one of the omelets. In another testament to creative labeling the big yellow label on the front of the box said "4g Total Carbs per serving". They must be going after the Adkins low carb crowd but with over a third of the saturated fat (bad for heart) that you should have in a day we say stay away from this one.

"Another issue with being large"

CNN's health page on their website refers to a growing problem. Americans are getting too big to fit into MRI and CAT scan machines and they have so much fatty tissue that ultrasound tests are coming back inconclusive. In the study the number of radiology tests that are diminished because of excess tissue has doubled in the past 15 years. Ultrasound techs are saying that the sound waves can't reach through the fat to get an accurate picture of the organs!

We've heard of this trend from furniture designers talking about having to create larger seats on airplanes and in theaters. However, being uncomfortable in the theater is a little different than not being able to have a possibly life threatening illness or injury diagnosed. Stay healthy!

"Fat People Are Not Jolly"

A story on CNN's web site dispels the myth. In fact, a new study finds a pretty definitive increase in the chance of depression or other mood altering disorder in subjects that were obese. Now don't look at the word obese and disregard the study. Many more of us meet the criteria for obesity than we realize. For example, try out a Body Mass Index (BMI) calculator and see where you stand.

So we have yet another reason to get into shape. When we are overweight we know we don't feel well and now this study confirms that we increase our risk for depression and other mental illness.

Fitness can change your life!

One of the most exciting things in our business is watching people challenge themselves and grow. With the American diet and time restrictions we know that it is tough to make time for fitness. We've been so pleased to see some of our clients not only make the time for their classes but then take it to the next level and accept a challenge to push themselves.

Congratulations go out to Kirsten, Heather and Kathy for running their recent 5K runs. All of them did it on their own, finished their race and succeeded in making their goals. We're excited for them and all of our clients who are making fitness part of their life!

CNN evidence supports BBC Free Day

CNN has an online article that has many experts saying that you can't fool yourself into thinking that peach is really a chocolate bar! You sometimes have to satisfy your cravings and the "trick" is to do it sensibly. We support this with our "free day" in our Bodyshaping Boot Camp. You have to have a food plan that you can live with and make sure that, if your goal is weight loss, you concentrate on the exercise and sensible eating. Within the article is an interesting quiz on how portion size and calorie counts have changed over the past 20 years. I was amazed.

Another benefit of reading labels!

As part of our Bodyshaping Boot Camp we teach everyone to read food labels for the breakdown and content of the ingredients. This week I was shopping for toothpaste and picked up the fancy bottle of "Super Whitening" Crest. Out of instinct from our food shopping I flipped it over to check the ingredients. When I read it I found the main ingredient sounded familiar. I picked up the regular tube of Crest and found that it was exactly the same thing. The regular tube was $3.98 for 12 ounces and "Super Whitening" was $4.61 for the fancy six ounce bottle!

Thanks to Bodyshaping Boot Camp I'm healthier, richer and only a little more compulsive. Be Strong!

Avoid Fast Food and Improve Your MENTAL Health

I'm going to have to plead the 5th as to why I was going through so many fast-food restaurants in a recent weekend. It was for a friend, yeah that's it. At any rate I determined that my stress level and blood pressure both went through the ceiling from those visits and that is before I ever got the food.

Service in these places was so bad that one couldn't get the order right, another couldn't get the orders out quick enough to keep the drive through moving and a third didn't have half of the products that were listed on their menu available to order.

Even if you could make healthy choices in these establishments I'm afraid that the mental anquish and stress caused by their poor service is enough of a reason to stay away! Life is too tough as it is. Don't go to places that are going to make it worse.
